What is the ExChange?

The ExChange is a two-day network and showcase conference for the Australia and New Zealand music industry, produced by Folk Alliance International in partnership with the Port Fairy Folk Festival.

This is the third year of The ExChange conference. Past ExChanges were located in Clonakilty, Ireland, and Gothenburg, Sweden.

The ExChange focuses on economic development, industry partnerships, professional development, business networking, music export opportunities, sector strategy for musicians and anyone in the folk music industry.

Conference programming includes a Welcome to Country and awards ceremony, keynote speaker, panels, showcases, and more.

Who is Folk Alliance International?

Folk Alliance International (FAI) was founded in 1989 to connect folk music leaders aiming to sustain the community and genre. The leading international voice for folk music, FAI is a 30-year-old arts nonprofit based in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

The organization’s expanded global network now includes more than 3,000 members and a worldwide community of cultural sector entrepreneurs and leaders that includes artists, record companies, publishers, presenters, agents, managers, arts administrators, diplomats, and more.

Enhancing folk music networks and creating development opportunities for cultural sector entrepreneurs is the foundation of FAI’s work. About Port Fairy Folk Festival

Established in 1977, Port Fairy Folk Festival has evolved to be one of Australia’s leading festivals. Led by a volunteer committee, the festival celebrates the great folk traditions of many cultures, regions, communities and countries. On an annual basis the program features artists from across Australia and the world, presenting as stellar variety of music from the broad spectrum of ‘folk’ music including Celtic, Bluegrass, Indigenous, Blues, Roots, Latin and glorious folk fusions. In addition there is story telling, film, theatre, visual arts and interactive workshops.

2020 will be the 44th presentation of this iconic event and will be a splendid mix of brilliant music, great conversations, workshops, collaborations and surprises. The Festival is set in the magnificent historic seaside village of Port Fairy, Victoria and is celebrated on Peek Whurrong Country. The 44th Port Fairy Folk Festival will be on March 6-9, 2020.
